Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important representative stated the attack made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
